I'm really only worried about bad practices and micro-transactions getting too much thought put into them which isn't an NFS-exclusive problem. I'll never forget the good old Need for Speed games (Most Wanted (2005), Carbon, Underground (I & II), ProStreet, etc.), but with the way Payback and Heat have been going recently I wouldn't necessarily say that the newer NFS-s are that bad for the youngsters out there now. Just be mindful that it also has a remaster, which has been known to cause problems with some people so make sure you skim the reviews of any potential problems before you buy that. From what I have seen it doesn't take itself too seriously at least and lets you free-roam as you want.Ī bit like Burnout Paradise which is another solid game out there that you can look at.

I have not played as much of the newer Most Wanted that is on Steam but I think that it is also a fairly safe purchase too. It has some very intense events (particularly the pursuits with the various chase/anti-chase gadgets) and it just generally looks and sounds gorgeous even before they decided to remaster it presumably for the multiplayer aspect to come back which is also a bonus. It offers a policing and a racing side one next to the other which is more in line with older NFS games like the one Quirrel mentioned above.
